Planning Meeting

Well, we had a long planning meeting last night. I really wasn't too coherent as I had been traveling from Mexico for the previous 36 hours, but anyway. :) I met the other members of the team, but the team leader has strep and was not there. There are five of us going. A married couple, another married woman, myself and the team leader. We will be meeting on a regular basis from now until we leave, so there will be more information on an ongoing basis.

One interesting tidbit... we will be trained in making prescription eyeglasses and taking machines with us. While we are there we will be able to make eyeglasses for those in need as well as train others how to do it. I think that sounds fascinating! We will probably run some kind of VBS or childrens program during the day, will work on maintenance and building and more.

We talked about packing... that will be a chore. We are each allowed one 50 lb. backpack and a small daypack as well. Much of the cost of this trip is to pay for the baggage we are taking (the eyeglass machines, tools, school supplies and more). We need to pack our own snacks for the whole trip as well as lunch for 8 days... (hmmm... protein bars??). How does one estimate how much toilet paper a person will use in two weeks?? We need large garbage bags to throw all of our gear in during sand storms... yuck! Thank for all of your prayers and support. I will keep you posted!
